SESSION 3 – Shaping the Future of Sustainable Mobility and a Door-to-Door Network Through Technology



 

Ed Debenham
Executive Director, Customer Strategy & Experience, Transport for NSW 

Ed Debenham is Executive Director, Customer Strategy and Experience at Transport for NSW, a world class transport organisation that is delivering the largest transport infrastructure program in Australia, with more than $72 billion of investment in projects that include Sydney Metro, light rail, motorways and road upgrades that will shape NSW cities, centres and communities for generations to come. 

Ed leads a team of professionals focused on ensuring the customer and communities are at the centre of these projects. His teams are responsible for customer strategy, transport and mobility policy, pricing of customer-facing products and solutions, including Mobility as a Service (MaaS). He also heads-up teams focused on optimising the design experience of modes and places for customers and communities and Customer Response. Prior to joining Transport for NSW, Ed has held various senior leadership roles, including as the Executive General Manager Mobility and EGM Strategy and Investments at NRMA. Ed also has more than a decade in leadership in banking and also as a management consultant.



 

Scott Smith 
Market Operations Director - Transportation, Aurecon

Scott is international engineering, design and advisory company Aurecon’s Market Operations Director, Transportation – Australia.  He has worked in a variety of technical and management roles since his career began as a Tunnel Engineer in 1999, most recently as Industry Director – Transport for Victoria and South Australia.  He believes Australia and New Zealand are in an incredibly fortunate position within the world, where we have a once in a generation opportunity to ensure that the current pipeline of transport projects deliver real benefits for communities and create a legacy for Australia where our systems, for commuting and freight, strengthen our economic productivity.  Scott has previously spent 11 years in leadership roles in Aurecon’s Asia business, including as Infrastructure Leader – Hong Kong and Client Director for Infrastructure in Asia.  He brings international lessons learned regarding the prioritisation of transit oriented development hubs and ensuring that we look up rather than out – thinking about our transport networks as being the centres of our communities.  Scott is passionate about understanding where the pressures are and how to manage them, looking in particular at digital engineering and how technology can assist with the lifecycle of a project from delivery to the asset management, operations and maintenance.  Scott has played key roles on many large infrastructure projects in both Australia and Asia, including EastLink, Cross City Tunnel, South Island Line and Express Rail Link in Hong Kong, as well as the Doha Metro Red Line project in the Middle East.



 

Catherine Rooney
Executive Director - Strategy, Innovation and Data Insights, Department of Transport, Victoria   

Catherine Rooney is Executive Director - Strategy, Innovation & Data Insights at the Victorian Department of Transport, leading development of transport and customer strategies, provision of customer and transport system insights and imbedded understanding of the user and innovative transport technology.

Prior to her current role, Catherine led Infrastructure Victoria’s research program and the update of their 30-year Infrastructure Strategy.  She has also been Executive Director, System Reform at the Department of Economic Development, Transport, Jobs and Resources, and before that spent number of years as Assistant Director at the Department of Treasury and Finance. 

In addition to her public sector experience, Catherine spent a decade working for The Allen Consulting Group and Deloitte on a range of infrastructure, energy, and social policy issues.



 

Joe Ma 
Deputy General Manager, Shenzhen Bus Group

Joe Ma is an urban planner with over 30 years of international experience in the field of urban and transportation planning spanning from the UK, China and Asia Pacific. He is an Eminent Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and a registered Professional Planner (Hong Kong).

Currently Deputy General Manager for the Shenzhen Bus Group (SZBG), Joe takes charge of all procurements, international development and branding, training and media business in SZBG.  A major accomplishment since joining SZBG in 2015 is the successful procurement of over 6000 electric buses and 5,000 electric taxis resulting in SZBG becoming the first fully and largest electric bus and taxi operator in the world. He also took charge of the construction of charging infrastructure including some 2,000 chargers in some 150 charging stations for both electric bus and taxi fleet. Subsequently, He represented SZBG at the Union Internationale des Transports Publics (UITP) 2019 Stockholm Summit in receiving the international highest “Outstanding Achievement Award” for the Company’s fleet electrification process. 



 

Scott Winks
Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa, Trapeze Group & Modaxo 

As the regional leader of Modaxo and Trapeze’s Transit Portfolio, Scott is passionate about making a meaningful difference to people's lives through improved mobility accessibility and outcomes. 

Having spent 25 years delivering technology solutions across the world, he enjoys helping businesses navigate diverse and disruptive technology challenges as we work to deliver solutions to help move the world’s people. 

Scott is also focused on building highly skilled and engaged teams that deliver improved business performance, client satisfaction, and talent advancement. Modaxo is in the business of acquiring, holding and growing people transport technology companies, and is part of the listed Constellation Software Inc (TSE:CSU).  



 

Stacey van der Putten 
Group Manager Metro Services, Auckland Transport

Stacey is a leader with broad experience across service industries, including public housing, public healthcare, construction and defence sectors. Stacey has held senior positions in business development, operations, change management and strategic relationship management.

Stacey is currently the Group Manager of Metro Services at Auckland Transport, where she gets to lead the operational teams in the delivery of public transport across Auckland. Her vision is for Auckland to have a safe, accessible, and resilient Public Transport network that provides benefits to Auckland residents and enables Public Transport to be part of everyone’s life.

Stacey was also responsible for leading the Public Transport response to COVID-19.



 

Angé Anczewska 
General Manager, UITPANZ   

Following the completion of a Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree in Houston, Texas USA, Angé migrated to Australia and began work with a harm-prevention charity focussed on level crossing safety and trauma prevention. She established the rail industry’s partnership with the R U OK charity and oversaw the launch of the inaugural Rail R U OK Day. Her responsibilities were then expanded to include strategic project management for the nation’s rail peak body, cementing her passion for a career in transportation.  

With an authentic desire to make a difference in shaping the way we move people, Angé is currently using her talents to develop capacity and increase cross-jurisdictional engagement in the ANZ public transport industry as the General Manager for the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) Australia New Zealand.



 

Segolene Deeley 
Corporate Affairs and Innovation Director, Keolis Downer

Segolene is a strategic customer and stakeholder specialist with 20 years’ experience leading public relations, stakeholder engagement, communications, innovation and account management in international business environments. Her career has spanned Europe, the UK and the US, and she joined Keolis Downer in 2017. Segolene has been with Keolis since 2011, and previously worked in the software and IT sector for 10 years.

Segolene oversees Keolis Downer’s market positioning in Australia, supporting existing operations and driving strategic engagement with key stakeholders ahead of key bids. She also leads innovation projects that improve integrated transport journeys and create more liveable cities.

Her experience working on projects around the world has given her a deep understanding of the diversity of mobility challenges and the importance of having a local and collaborative approach to deliver social and economic outcomes.



 

Evan Walker
Director of New Mobility, Transport for NSW

Evan Walker is the Director of New Mobility for Transport for NSW Smart Innovation Centre. His team focusses on developing and delivering trials of emerging transport technology that could have positive benefits for transport customers and has lead a number of automated, connected and electrical vehicle projects in NSW.  

Evan’s focus is on creating partnerships that can fast track the development of these technologies and working collaboratively both within government and across industry to put NSW at the forefront of new technology.



 

Vincent Doran 
Executive Director - Service Planning and Infrastructure, Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland 

Vincent is a chartered civil engineer and a passionate transport planner who is the Executive Director for Service Planning and Infrastructure within the Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Road’s (TMR’s) TransLink Division. Prior to joining TMR, Vincent worked in the UK’s private sector and was involved in planning and delivering a number of city shaping PT projects across the UK. In his role at TransLink, Vincent is responsible for overseeing the planning and programming of a wide variety of public transport and accessibility projects including bus stations, demand responsive transport trials, major bus and rail network changes, park n’ rides and multi-modal PT interchanges.

Mobli is used by some of the world's biggest brands to deliver innovative mobility solutions that make transport cheaper, environmentally friendly, engaging and fun.
